How to manage the daily conflicts?

It is not surprising that people disagree with each other. We actually live in a complex and multi-faceted world. And just when you think you know much about this world's issues and assets, you realize that actually you know nothing at all. In most cases, the main sources of the world's problems are conflicts. This is the reason why we all grow up and see the world in the same way. Our opinions evolve and vary during our life. Conflicts are sometimes unavoidable, especially at workplaces.

For this very reason, it is important that we make the most out of our working environment, which can often imply conflict mediation to maintain peace. Here are some simple ways of conflict mediation.

Take actions quickly

Avoiding conflicts may seem to be the best solution, especially in your workplace; however, this is not the optimal solution at all. The growing trend toward conflict avoidance is mainly due to the fact that we live in constant fear, mainly of job security, mistrust of the leaders or even the fact of not being taken seriously. Unfortunately, we cannot really dissolve conflict by our own.

Sooner or later, if they are not correctly fixed and recognized, the conflicts may degenerate into serious political problems. Hence, it is crucial that measures be taken immediately to resolve any conflict, even when as trivial as it may seem. The sooner you will recognize that you have made errors, the better are the chances to find solutions.

Listen and understand

A better way to resolve a dispute is to engage in an efficient communication with your colleagues or your leaders. When we talk about disagreement, the first thing which comes to mind is that two people argue with each other and do not listen to each other.

In such a case, people really insist on imposing their own ideas without listening to the others' point of view. This raises tensions, which may develop faster, if no appropriate measure is taken. It is necessary to learn how to calm down and listen. Researchers have led to a conclusion that if we listen to the others' point of view, we can reverse the situation and reverse the tensions.

Remaining impartial

Whatever the reason for your personal view is, always remain impartial during conflict resolution.

  • In stating your own conflict observation at the beginning of the conversation, you may choose to support one of the parties. Instead, encourage both sides to talk about their key concern, and ask them to listen to each other.
  • As you remain impartial, you can win their confidence as a problem solver, and your colleagues will feel comfortable to share their concerns with you.

Be the moderator as Prem Rawat and support those who need help. By helping them share their problems with a structured approach for example, they will later be able to resolve their own problems by themselves without any intervention.

Focus on value

Every cloud has a silver linen. Encourage your team to concentrate on the positive side of a disagreement, without letting them affected by the negative emotions.

During conflicts, we tend to let themselves be led by such harmful feelings as anger. This harms your ability to make clear decisions but simply bring your weaknesses into light. Recognizing the values of understanding and empathy is therefore essential, as Prem Rawat does.
